Insulin Pumps

Come to the insulin pump educators

If you are looking for a comprehensive review of your insulin pump options, including the latest technology and personalised advice, then Macintyre Health is here for you.

We are highly experienced in diabetes tech. We’re excited by treatment technologies that give you greater flexibility and more information to manage type 1 diabetes your way.

Our Credentialled Diabetes Educators (CDE’s) are fully trained in the latest insulin pump technologies, including advanced systems like the hybrid closed-loop insulin pumps.

These amazing gadgets use predictive algorithms to automatically adjust their delivery of insulin to keep your glucose levels stable. That means these systems know when you need more insulin to stop your glucose rising too high and when you need less insulin to avoid a hypo. The average person living with diabetes makes 180 extra decisions a day, our team are passionate about using these technologies to reduce this number.

Starting on a Pump

If you’ve been on insulin injections for years, then you know it can be a bit daunting to change over to a pump. We’re here to help you understand the technology and realise the benefits. We’ve helped many people learn to use an insulin pump – our oldest new pump patient is 82 years old and now uses it like a pro!

We’ll help you choose your new insulin pump and teach you how to use it.

If you’ve never been on an insulin pump before, you’ll need to attend one of our clinics in person to get set up safely. We’re following all recommendations to protect you and ourselves during COVID-19, including hand-hygiene, clinic cleaning and screening all patients prior to their visit. Starting an insulin pump is important medical care that must be done face-to-face.

We’ll explain all of your options and educate you on how to use your insulin pump. We have extensive referral networks, and have dietitians on our team who can also assist you about how food affects your glucose levels. This can all be done through telehealth.

We will also liase with your specialist, your private health fund and the insulin pump company to get all the paperwork sorted out. We will continue to work closely with you for the first month to make sure that everything is operating smoothly.

Upgrading your Pump

Diabetes technology is constantly evolving. Some pumps can receive remote software updates to keep up with the ever changing developments. Others simply need to be replaced with the latest insulin pump technology.

Typically insulin pump warranties only last 4 years, which means that you may be due for an upgrade. We suggest that you check your out of warranty date – we can help you with this too!

We can advise you on the available options, tailoring our recommendations to your lifestyle, budget, and approach to diabetes. We can also liaise with your specialist, your private health fund and the insulin pump company to get all the paperwork sorted out.

Whether you’re upgrading to a pump which is the same brand or to a different brand you’ve used previously, telehealth appointments are available to get your pump set up with ease.

If you would prefer to visit us in person, we’re following all recommendations to protect you and ourselves during COVID-19, including hand-hygiene, clinic cleaning, and screening all patients prior to your visit.
